Have you ever been on a watercoaster? The Aquaduck is an amphibious vehicle that takes you from land and water, starting on Cavill Avenue before heading out along the famous golden beaches of Surfers Paradise – then, hold on tight as you jet straight out onto the Broadwater. Cruise the Gold Coast’s intricate waterways, keeping an eye out for famous landmarks and native wildlife, then look out the window as the boat transforms back into a bus to take you home again.
Macintosh Island Park is a sanctuary in the centre of Surfers, characterised by lush green trees, manicured lawns and a few interesting residents. Between their free-roaming peacock population and the local Bigfoot (who can be found sleeping in his cave), it’s hard to believe that Macintosh Park is just a hop, skip and a jump away from the high-rises of Surfers Paradise. Plus, it’s got a playground, picnic tables and shelters, toilets and plenty of other facilities that make it the perfect spot to lay your picnic blanket in Surfers.
If you’re after something a bit weird and very wacky, Ripley’s Believe It or Not has it all. Seriously. Their massive ‘Odditorium’ is filled to the brim with incredible illusions, magic and mystery, all straight from the collection of Mr Robert Ripley himself, who travelled the world in search of the unusual and unbelievable. There’s a musical staircase, a holographic dance floor, plus shrunken heads and fertility statues – and we’ve only scratched the surface.
Strap in and hold on to the world’s first water-powered jetpack device! Jetpack Adventures has been sending thrill-seekers high into the sky since 2012 and promises a wet, wild ride above the Gold Coast waterways. Whether you’re 10 or 89 (the youngest and oldest jetpack pilots the company has seen) you’re bound to love being propelled above the water by the jetpack’s two jet nozzles. Steer using your bodyweight or the two hand controls – the adventure is totally yours.
We can’t think of a better place to spend your pocket money than the Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets. Held each Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, there are about 130 stalls along this 800m foreshore stretch with live entertainers bringing the fun. Whether it’s fashion, jewellery, exotic shells, art, unique homewares or artisan foods your teen is interested in, they can score it all (and more) when they wander through the beachside markets.
Padlock’d Escape Rooms
Has your teen tried an escape room before? If not, send them straight to Padlock’d for some brain-bending, high-pressure fun! Each room is themed – there’s a haunted toy store, a vampire crypt and a museum heist, to name just a few – and dotted with hidden clues, which your teen will have to link together in order to solve the mystery and escape the room. Hey, maybe you’ll even stay and join them?!
You’ve explored Surfers from the footpath – now, it’s time for a sky-high view! Positioned at the top of the tallest building in the southern hemisphere, Q1’s SkyPoint lounge not only offers unrivalled views of the entire coastline, but also amazing food and drinks for those wanting a next level dining experience. Test your limits on the SkyPoint Climb, which will have you scaling the side of the building and trekking to the very top – why not choose to go before sunrise or after dark for a particularly unforgettable experience?
Regular putt putt is fun enough, but when you throw crazy cocktails, wild obstacle courses and a pumping nightclub atmosphere into the mix, it makes for an unbeatable night out. Navigate your way through everything from toilet cubicles to games of Pacman, plus scenes from your favourite shows and movies. Just be sure to bring your phone – there are so many moments for a happy snap, lolly-laden cocktail in hand, along the way!
Adorned with archways, plenty of plants and geometric patterns, you’d be forgiven for thinking you’ve stepped into an LA hotspot rather than a bar on the Surfers Paradise Esplanade! The menu features Mediterranean-inspired tapas, delicious mains and a selection of fun cocktails and desserts, all of which are served with a side of panoramic beach views. Come for lunch or their beachside brunch, and stay long into the night for the pumping music.
