A true classic. Surfers Paradise is what tourists probably picture when they think of the Gold Coast – and for good reason. From the iconic ‘Surfers Paradise’ sign (which is set against a backdrop of white sand and blue water) to the many shops and restaurants lining the beach itself, it’s certainly the jewel in the Gold Coast’s crown. Not to mention, there are so many fun attractions to be found there. From the Aquaduck to Infinity, the Wax Museum and more, you’ll happily spend the day hopping from the sand to the streets.
About a 20-minute walk from Paradise Resort, Main Beach is perfect for those looking for something a little bit quiet. A lot less busy than its southern neighbour, Surfers Paradise, Main Beach is perfect for families or those in search of a more relaxing beach day. After you have a swim, walk up to the Southport Surf Lifesaving Club for a post-beach feed. There’s even a playground nearby for the kids.
Beloved by surfers for its variety of surfing spots, Currumbin Alley has something for everyone. In the alley itself, the waves are nice and small yet long enough to give beginner surfers time to stand up. Out the back – and on the other side of the alley, on the beach itself – the waves are better for more experienced surfers. There are surf schools there too if you’d like to learn! Even if you’re not keen to hop on a board, the creek a bit further up the alley provides a safe, calm swimming spot.
Calm and quiet, Tallebudgera Creek is a favourite for families of all sizes. On the southern side, towards Palm Beach, there is plenty of sand and amenities to set up for the day – we’re talking barbeques, toilets and even a coffee kiosk to keep you energies. On the other side is Echo Beach, a little slice of paradise that can only be accessed on foot (or, by stand-up paddleboard!). If you’re visiting Tally, be sure to bring your favourite pool toys for a float.
Last but certainly not least, Burleigh. One of the best spots to spend an afternoon, the famous Burleigh Hill offers views all the way up to Surfers Paradise. Enjoy an afternoon swim in the ocean, then unpack your picnic basket and set up for a sunset dinner. There’s a playground there to keep the kids entertained, too.
