Top 10 Things to do on the Gold Coast at Night

Posted in: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast is a destination that has a well-deserved reputation for fun in the sun, however the region also shines once that same sun goes down for the day.

Renowned for its diversity of things to do and home to a huge variety of experiences for all ages, the Gold Coast’s night activities likewise cover a similar cross-section of appeal to different age groups and family demographics.

If you’re looking for ideas to keep yourselves or the kids entertained of an evening, we take a look at ten of the top things to do on the Gold Coast at night.

1. The Australian Outback Spectacular

Established on the Gold Coast in 2006, it soon became one of the region’s most popular tourist attractions. For those on the Gold Coast looking to entertain friends or family from other countries, in particular, it’s a great way to introduce a slice of Aussie history; for us locals, it’s an often-moving tribute to key figures from our own country’s past.

The show offers a traditional Aussie dinner that’s delivered to-your-seat during the show itself – including food, wine and beer.

Its arena is structured in a logical way to provide maximum viewability regardless of where you’re sitting, with each side of the arena divided into one of two “teams” in order to encourage audience participation throughout.

Pre-Bookings essential. Reserve your "spectacular" evening here

2. Dracula’s Cabaret Restaurant

Book the Kids into Kids Club and prepare to be entertained at one of the unique dining experiences in Australia.

It’s been a non-stop fixture in the city ever since; heavily influenced by the burlesque-and-music stylings of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Dracula’s offers a regularly-changing program that mixes together comedy, live music, dance, acrobatics and more into a robust multi-hour evening of naughty fun.

During the show itself, guests can enjoy a 3-course meal with a number of different options to choose from covering different dietary requirements, while its cast of enthusiastic and talented performers put on a show that’s nothing if not memorable.

3. Dining & Punting at the Star Hotel & Casino

Recently changed in name and improved in both quality and scope, the Gold Coast’s long-running hub of adult entertainment has undergone both a facelift and a rebrand to offer one of the most comprehensive spots for evening activities.

Now more family-friendly than ever and catering to a host of different interests all in the one spot, the former Jupiters Casino checks all the boxes one could want for night time entertainment – dining, dancing, drinking and of course, having a flutter are all covered here and they’re all better-done than ever.

4. See the Glow Worms in the Hinterland

An underrated part of the Gold Coast that’s just as much worth a visit as its shopping and beach offerings, the Gold Coast hinterland is a verdant hub of rainforest greenery, charming boutique craft stores, and expansive, panoramic lookout points that show off some south-east Queensland natural beauty at its finest.

It’s also become a go-to night destination over the years for visitors from afar for one reason in particular: its glow worm colonies. Most famed for one species found only in Australia and across the ditch in New Zealand, the tiny insect larvae emit a glow designed to attract prey, yet for the human viewer, these natural phenomena combine with their typically dark surrounds to produce a wonderful effect reminiscent of stars dotting a night sky.

For something completely different than your average Gold Coast evening, those with a thirst for the paranormal can go behind the glitz and glamour of the region for a look at some of the more intriguing stories both fascinating and gruesome. Lantern Ghost Tours provide a fascinating – and often chilling – insight into some of the Gold Coast’s more unknown historical occurrences.

7. Visit the Surfers Paradise Markets

One of the biggest and best changes to the Gold Coast’s night activity scene in recent years has been the development and expansion of a number of excellent, semi-regular night markets that allow visitors to take advantage of the great weather in the open air.

Perhaps the most famous due to its pure geography is the Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets  (as you might have guessed) on the beachfront at Surfers Paradise. The Esplanade of Surfers Paradise was redeveloped and expanded in recent years, and the markets fit seamlessly in – for those staying in or visiting Surfers on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday nights, you’ll be able to absorb a variety of different crafts and foods from over 100 diverse stalls while soaking in an iconic Surfers Paradise sunset.

8. Timezone Surfers Paradise

Stocked with enough variety in entertainment to qualify as more of a mini-theme-park rather than a standard arcade, Timezone in the heart of Surfers Paradise makes for an easy to recommend go-to night attraction for those with kids in particular. Its central location means it’s easy to access for those either staying in – or doing sightseeing, shopping or dining – in the hub of Surfers Paradise, as well.

While most other kids attractions shut early, Timezone extends its hours of fun with a midnight closing time each day, so for those willing to let the kids stay up past their standard bedtime (or big kids among us at heart looking for some carefree fun) it’s a highly flexible option.

9. Skypoint Observation Deck

SkyPoint at the Q1 takes you to the highest point above the Gold Coast and offers spectacular 360 degree views from the surf to the hinterland and beyond.

Rising 230m into the sky, SkyPoint is located on Level 77 of Q1, the Southern Hemisphere's Tallest Residential Tower, in southern Surfers Paradise. More than just awesome views, your journey begins with an inside look at the construction of this landmark development before boarding the express lift to the observation deck to view the glistening Gold Coast. Take some time to explore this custom designed viewing arena and soak up the panoramic views. Enjoy coffee and cake, or perhaps an evening cocktail at Skybar lounge.
