A show holiday, every day!

What are we celebrating?

Here in South East Queensland, there’s always a lot to celebrate – but that’s especially true in August! We have not one but two shows to attend, in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast.

Queensland’s most iconic and historic show, the Royal Queensland Exhibition (or ‘Ekka’, as it’s affectionately known) hits Brisbane’s RNA Showground from August 6 to August 14.

The ultimate showcase of animals, agriculture and arts – not to mention delicious food – the Ekka is an unmissable family day out.

Stop by the Woolworths Pavilion for a feast of epic proportions, test your metal on the rides in Sideshow Alley and park up on Machinery Hill for the nightly entertainment (fireworks and light show included).

No matter how you ‘Ekka’, just make sure you don’t leave empty handed – stop by the Showbag Pavilion on your way out for the ultimate souvenir.

Then, from Friday August 26 to Sunday August 28, the Gold Coast Show returns with a bang (literally!) in 2022.

The jam-packed program will include animal experiences like equestrian shows, pony rides, an animal nursery, show dogs and camel rides, as well as delicious food at the show bar and Showbag Lawn.

The thrill seekers won’t want to miss Sideshow Alley or the playground, and the whole family will love the art and craft marquee and the wood chop display. There really is something for everyone!

You’ll definitely want to be there on opening night when the Gold Coast Show celebrates its return with a fireworks display at 6.45pm – right after the concert with James Blundell. It’s all happening at the Broadwater Parklands.

The best part is, we’re given public holidays to enjoy both shows! The Ekka public holiday will take place on:

  • August 8 for Bundaberg, Redlands, Gladstone, Gympie, Lockyer Valley, Logan, Moreton Bay, North and South Burnett, Scenic Rim, Balonne, Cherbourg, Somerset, Toowoomba and Western Downs residents
  • August 10 for Brisbane residents

The Gold Coast Show public holiday will take place on August 26 for Gold Coast residents.

It’s the perfect opportunity to book a family getaway at Paradise Resort, which is conveniently located two tram stops from the Broadwater Parklands and just over one hour away from Brisbane’s RNA Showgrounds.

There is also lots of show-related fun to be had on-site at Paradise Resort. Here’s how we’ll help you live every day like it’s a show day.

Miniature train ride

All aboard for Dusty’s Safari Train Ride! This new addition to Paradise Resort lets you take a slow and enjoyable ride through our Safari Park, spotting many different species of wild animals on the way.

You’ll also learn information about the wildlife you spot along the way thanks to our specialist train guide, Dusty, and even win prizes if you answer the trivia questions correctly!

Come and join us for this escape through the Paradise Resort Safari Park, perfect for kids aged two and up (children aged two to three require an adult to ride, and tickets will be needed for both riders). Meet at the Train Station five minutes prior to departure as the train must keep schedule.

Water parks aplenty

Discover bucket loads of fun at our Z4K water park! Our central resort area features a giant water playground, featuring a refreshing lagoon pool, large heated spa and two enormous aqua play attractions.

Our large Z4K Water Park is three storeys high, complete with slides, water cannons and climbing frames. Topping it all off (literally) is a giant bucket that fills with 600 litres of water before emptying every few minutes over guests below in one enormous splash!

The littlies have not been forgotten either, with their own smaller water park including a slippery slide, water cannons and giant tipping water bucket. There’s also a paddling area with a gently sloping beach entry. The pool, spa and junior water park are heated year-round.

And while the kids will have bucket loads of fun in the water parks, there are many resort-style amenities our guests have access to including an outdoor swimming pool, children’s splash zone, activities program and much more, to keep the younger ones entertained.

Laser tag

Challenge your friends or family to a game of laser tag in an epic ‘Battle for Underwater World,’ the latest addition to our Zone 4 Kids Club.

Head to our new Battle Briefing Room to be instructed on your latest mission, then get ready to battle it out with friends or family. During your adventure, you’ll conquer the infamous box jellyfish which has invaded and taken control of Underwater World in the Zone 4 Kids Club.

There may be plenty of places to hide but keep an eye out for your opposition – no one is safe in this friendly game of modern warfare.

Movie nights (snacks included)

Grab yourself some popcorn and sit back to enjoy our free family movie night on the big screen in front of the big water park.

There isn’t just popcorn and fun family flicks to look forward to – you and the kids can also sink your teeth into hot dogs and fairy floss. There’s something to satisfy every sweet tooth!

Note that this event will go ahead weather permitting.

Food on-site

There’s no need to leave Paradise Resort in search of a great family meal.

Just take Penguins Restaurant, a brand-new themed restaurant that is bound to get the whole family flippin’ excited. It’s open daily for breakfast and dinner and boasts a huge range of options!

Or, if you’re looking for a quick yet delicious bite, hop over to Jerry’s Burger Bar for a Giant Jerry or Deb’s Pizza Shack for a tasty Hawaiian (and loads more).

Relaxing poolside? Whether it’s breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner, the Poolside Café by the water park offers a delicious range of quick and convenient options for all tastebuds.

Even your holiday staples are sorted at Splashes Boutique and Mini-Mart, a handy grocery store where you can grab everything from bread and milk to beer and wine.

The best part is, thanks to Paradise Resort’s partnership with the app Order Up, there is an easy, convenient way to order food and drinks online. Just hop onto your phone, choose your meals and you’ll be notified when it’s ready to pick it up from one of our on-site restaurants. Yep, we’ve really put the power to feed your family quickly and easily at your fingertips.

Oh, and as if all that isn’t enough, we’ve also got free BBQ areas for your family fry up. We’ve seriously thought of everything.
