NATURAL PLAYGROUNDS ABOUND ON THE GOLD COAST, BUT THERE ARE PLENTY OF MAN-MADE ONES THAT ARE ALSO WELL WORTH A VISIT. IF YOU’RE VACATIONING WITH THE KIDS, GIVE THESE SPOTS A TRY…
If water rides are your thing, Wet’n’Wild is one theme park you’re not going to want to miss during your Gold Coast holiday. With ride names like ‘Tornado’, ‘Constrictor’, ‘Kamikaze’ and ‘Black Hole’, you know you’re going to be in for a wild (and wet) day. There are also a selection of family slides, so even the littlest members of your crew will have a blast.
PARADISE POINT PARKLANDS
It’s not called Paradise Point for nothing. Perched on the broad water, Paradise Point boasts spacious grassy areas, children’s playgrounds and excellent barbecue facilities. Make use of the undercover tables or pack a picnic blanket and enjoy lunch in the shade of the many tall trees, as the kids tire themselves out on the climbing frames, slides and swings.
Sea World allows visitors to get up close and personal with dolphins, seals, sharks and plenty of other underwater creatures, while also advocating for ocean conservation and education. It’s also jam-packed with awesome shows, screaminducing rides and animal adventures to embark on. You’re bound to have a whale of a time!
Dreamworld has everything from jawdropping roller coasters, to tigers, to tree kangaroos! Take the kids along for the day and they’ll get to meet some of their favourite characters, chow down on delicious food and take plenty of turns on their favourite rides.
BROADWATER PARKLANDS, SOUTHPORT
The sprawling Broadwater Parklands are a Gold Coast favourite for a reason – between the water park and the ginormous jumping pillow, it’s the perfect spot for an afternoon of family fun. Well-kept, well-positioned seating areas mean you can make the most of the view while the kids run wild in the sandpit or take turns on the motorbike.
PIRATE PARK, PALM BEACH PARKLANDS
Families with young children will particularly love this park, which boats an enormous pirate ship as a playground! There are plenty of places to play hide and seek, and, as the parklands are set on the Currumbin Creek inlet, you can have fun in the water, too. Plus, parents, there’s coffee close by at Dune Café. Everyone wins!
KURRAWA PRATTEN PARK, BROADWATER
Along with being the Gold Coast’s first ‘all abilities playground’, Kurrawa Pratten Park is a favourite for local families and tourists alike for its expansive area, impressive array of facilities and excellent barbecue spots. The fully fenced playground offers hours of endless entertainment, without the fear of your little ones running onto the road.
THUNDERBIRD PARK, TAMBORINE MOUNTAIN
Make the short trek up to the Gold Coast hinterlands and you won’t just be treated to natural play spots – there is adventure to be had when you come face-to-face with dinosaurs at Tamborine Mountain’s Thunderbird Park, too! There are dinosaur eggs to uncover, high ropes courses to navigate, adventure minigolf and so much more.
If it’s absolute waterfront afternoon fun you’re after, look no further than Tallebudgera Creek. A respite from the hustle and bustle of the Gold Coast, the crystal-clear ocean creek also offers awesome playgrounds, toilet facilities and a rock pool. You’ll happily spend hours here watching the kids run back and forth between the playground and the water.
Where else can you see all of your favourite movie characters – we’re talking Wonder Woman, Batman, Scooby-Doo, the Looney Tunes and soooo many more – chow down on delicious food and face your fears on some of the scariest rollercoasters in the country? Movie World, of course!
